2017 Wildflower Planting Event

Posted May 2017

On Thursday 6th April our group of green fingered volunteers and Tavistock Town Council employees came together to sow wildflower seeds in the Green Burial Meadow.

The planting event was part of our ongoing commitment to enhance the natural burial site and create a wildflower meadow.

Our volunteers came in force, tools in hand and ready to get to work sowing the wildflower seeds in the previously marked out 10 x 10 meter squares.

The seed mix which was generously gifted to the Green Burial Meadow enhancement programme by H. Mole, contained many varieties in order to provide annual and perennial colour whilst appealing to bees.

Many of our volunteers have a deep connection to the Green Burial Meadow as it remains the final resting place of their loved ones, we therefore thought it was essential to include their suggestions in what flowers they would like to see established in the meadow within the seed mix. We were able to achieve this and as such we hope the seeds sown will grow and contribute towards creating a peaceful haven for both nature and those who visit the meadow.

The sunshine, community spirit and added bonus of tea and cake all contributed to making this event such a success.

We would like to thank all of those who so generously gave their time and support to the event, it is much appreciated!

If you would like to volunteer your time or be included in future planting events please do let the Cemetery Administrator know.

Wildflower Planting in the Green Burial Meadow

Posted March 2017

As part of our on-going commitment in creating a Wildflower Burial Meadow, we will be holding a Wildflower Planting Event on Thursday 6th April from 10am onwards. Last Autumns sowing of the Yellow Rattle seed was a great success, helped by the lovely weather and of course the wonderful volunteers who gave their time, the turnout certainly surpassed all our expectations! We are starting to see the results from the autumn sowing with small seedlings of Yellow Rattle emerging.

If anyone would like to volunteer their time for this years Wildflower Planting Event please do let the Cemetery Administrator know.

We look forward to seeing you there!
