Drake’s Statue

The Statue of Sir Francis Drake in Tavistock was erected in 1883 and comprises a standing bronze figure by J E Boehm, with sword, poignard and globe. It has been listed by Historic England and sits on a square granite plinth with bronze reliefs of 4 scenes from the life of Sir Francis Drake Admiral and Navigator (1542-1596). In common with all public authorities the Town Council is committed to the preservation and maintenance of it and all other nationally listed and protected buildings and structures.

In addition to the Statue, and located on a nearby site in The Meadows, will be an interpretation board giving visitors the opportunity to reflect on this important figure in English history in a contemporary context.
