TAVISTOCK TOWN COUNCIL – PROVISION OF PUBLIC SEATING.
Tavistock Town Council provides and maintains seating for public use throughout the town, with a total of no fewer than 230 benches across the Parish.
In the town centre there is seating for 32 people at four large round tables in the Pannier Market Surround and 13 benches on Bedford Square alone.
Comments have recently been made in the Tavistock Times and on social media to the effect that public seating has been reallocated for use by specific businesses.
This is not the case. Any other seating in the Market Surround is provided by traders themselves in connection with their business and as such is separate from the public seating provided by the Council.
Unfortunately, the comments were made without checking the facts with the Town Council prior to publication. There are no restrictions on using the Council provided public seating for the lawful consumption of food and drinks purchased from local businesses.
No changes have been made to the current provision or are proposed for the future.
